Cozy up to Cashmere: The Beloved Fabric Behind Our New Fall Line

It’s no secret that we’re pretty big fans of cashmere. After all, this cozy fabric is a mainstay of the Chan Luu brand, and we admittedly love wrapping ourselves up in our cashmere scarves and apparel. Super soft and incredibly warm, cashmere is one of the most luxurious natural fabrics in the entire world. That’s why we’re excited to reveal the ins and outs of the cashmere production process and showcase what makes this beloved material so incredibly special to our brand as well as our customers.

On the design team’s most recent trip to Mongolia, they were able to capture a behind the scenes video of our cashmere scarves process. Watch below and enjoy the process that goes into making our unique scarves.

Cashmere’s long list of admirers has included European royalty, Hollywood celebrities and present-day shoppers alike, and it’s easy to see why. This cozy fabric boasts three times the insulation power of traditional sheep’s wool despite being far thinner and softer. (In other words, it’s perfect for fall and winter layering. Sigh.)

While this sought-after textile may be associated with indulgent creature comforts, creating it is an elaborate labor of love. In fact, just sourcing the raw materials needed to make cashmere textiles is a challenge in and of itself, as cashmere goats (of course!) only live in high altitudes and are selectively bred in China, India and certain parts of Europe. China is the world’s primary supplier of raw cashmere materials, and we just so happen to source our cashmere exclusively from Inner Mongolia. This preferred location means that our cashmere blends are even warmer thanks to the region’s goats having thicker fleece (a direct result of the area’s harsh climate). Check out our road trip video below for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the entire manufacturing process.

Wool is only gathered from cashmere goats during their natural molting season in the months of spring, and the sheared fibers are pressed into cloud-like sheets by heavy-duty machinery. These sheets are then finely spun into yarn and woven into soft fabric with the help of a loom. Our cashmere designs are thoroughly inspected for any flaws in a meticulous quality control process to ensure that the woven material is free from any defects. The manufacturing steps continue as the garments’ natural gray, brown and white hues are expertly dyed in a mix of solid shades and statement-making patterns and prints. The edges of each piece are skillfully fringed by hand, and the garments are finally pressed and steamed to perfection.

Cashmere may be in high demand, but its limited production window and overall availability make it a true luxury item that requires skilled craftsmanship. This unique fabric is also popular due to its impressive longevity. Cashmere boasts a superior ability to retain its original shape and color throughout the years when given proper care.

From a multi-seasonal cashmere wrap to the timeless appeal of a cashmere sweater, our cozy styles are wardrobe staples that you’ll love draping yourself in season after season. We hope this inside glimpse at our manufacturing process emphasizes just how much time and skill goes into crafting each and every Chan Luu cashmere design. Our commitment to quality is matched by our love of style, and we’re proud to give you the best of both worlds.

Do you adore cashmere as much as we do, or are you looking to treat yourself to your very first cashmere indulgence? Shop our full range of women’s cashmere scarves and apparel to experience this luxe material firsthand.

Stay cozy, friends!

5 Ways to Revive Your Home for Summer

Start the season off on the right foot and adapt your surroundings to the sunnier months ahead (oh, the anticipation!) In other words, it’s good for your mind, body and soul. We’re taking a look at some simple tips and tricks that will help your summertime home décor gorgeously come into bloom.

1. Out with the Old

The first step in the process is parting with things that – as Marie Kondo would say – no longer bring you joy. Those winter sweaters you never wore? Donate them to charity. That tube of mascara that just expired? Toss it out and buy a new one. Sort through your closet, beauty products, office paperwork, home décor, the fridge… everything! Once your current belongings are organized, you can comfortably (and intelligently) bring some fresh ones in.

2. In with the New

And now… the fun part! Adding some new decorations is a great way to give your house a summer-infused makeover. Before you go wild with colorful prints and patterns galore, take an honest look at what you need as well as what you want. Walk through your home and imagine different color palettes within each room. Would a pastel blanket or embellished pillow revive that muted loveseat? Would new linens take your bedding from dull to revived? Look for opportunities to add color, but also consider subtle changes like favoring clean neutrals or simply opening up windows for some fresh air. Keep in mind that out-of-sight storage solutions can greatly impact your home environment, as well.

3. Add Color

Color truly does make a difference in the way your home looks and feels. All too often, people tend to shy away from color pops. A periwinkle accent wall? Orange and yellow printed wallpaper? We understand that bright hues are intimidating… but they’re incredibly striking and powerful when used appropriately. Don’t be afraid to paint a room in a shade that’s outside your comfort zone. You may discover that it’s exactly what you want. After all, taking a risk can lead to colorful rewards. And if the results are not exactly what you had in mind, no worries! It’s just paint. Relax, and take a walk on the bright side.

4. Weave a Message

One of the easiest ways to transition your home for summer is through earthy textures. We’re talking wicker baskets, weathered finishes and gauzy linens. Think of the items you might find on an outdoor patio, and go from there. Rattan furnishings, wooden palettes, tin garden tubs… simply bring these outdoor elements inside.

5. Meet your Greens

Speaking of bringing the great outdoors inside for a change, don’t forget to incorporate your green thumb talents inside your home, as well. Spruce up your apartment or home interior with potted plants, vibrant flowers and desert-inspired succulents. Basically, add as much plant life as you like. From plant stands to hanging rope planters, nothing says summer like garden greenery, so style your home accordingly.

Bohemian Braids are In! Three Stylish Ways to Wear Them This Summer

When it comes to style, one of the best accessories you own is sitting right on top of your head. From Parisian pixies to flowing beach-bum waves, your hairstyle tells the world so much about you. If you’re lusting over the boho-chic aesthetic like we are, there are few things more Pinterest-board worthy than a free-spirited bohemian braid. We’re taking a look at some of our favorite summer takes on this classic hairstyle — and showing you how to recreate them with no fuss.

1.  On the Sidelines

CL Blog - Braids

There’s nothing wrong with a basic side braid — it’s a quick way to achieve a braided look without going to a lot of fuss. But if you want a braid with a little more oomph, you may want to complicate your side-braid strategy. Instead of just pulling all of your hair over to one shoulder and braiding lackadaisically, switch it up by braiding with intention. Place one chunky braid along the side, and tug on each plait for extra volume. Pair two differently sized fishtail braids on one side for cascading texture, or pin one small braid back behind your head, allowing the rest of your hair to fall freely in loose waves. It’s all about taking a proper braid and giving it some playful asymmetry.

2. Half and Half

CL Blog - Braids

If you’re not exactly braid inclined when it comes to your hairstyling skills, a half-up braid is a fairly low-maintenance option. There are a thousand different ways to attempt this romantic style. The key is to keep the look loose and flowing, as if you just pinned your hair back to get it out of your face (something that summertime temperatures demand anyway). This type of braid is easily upgraded by your choice of accessories, so don’t be afraid to get creative with your bobby pins and barrettes. Create an elegant metallic triangle with a few gold pins, or choose a circle clip for a creative spin on geometric shapes.

3. Undone Updo

CL Blog - Braids

There’s something so ethereal about an updo, and this sophisticated style easily transitions to a boho-goddess statement when it’s a little undone. Use a chunky Dutch or fishtail braid to create a plaited crown. Secure your hair into whatever updo you prefer, and then pull out some wispy layers to give it a messy finish. Dry shampoo adds texture, which is great for boosting volume at the roots and giving each plait more width. Boho accessories are perfect for this particular style, as well, so consider adding sparkly pins, floral accents or a textured headband for a playful touch.

Happy braiding!
