Wishing and Hoping: Our Spring Wishlist Revealed

Just as the September issue holds the promise of fall styling inspiration, the beginning of spring captures the first glimpse of fashion’s year ahead. We’re currently lusting over a bevy of fresh seasonal styles, and our spring wishlist is quickly turning into a list of non-debatable must-haves.

1. Airy Layers

Spring is all about renewal, so it makes sense that our closets experience a metamorphosis of sorts as we enter the months ahead. Heavy winter knits get replaced with airy, lightweight fabrics that suit our mood and the theme of spring, and the change is most certainly a welcome one. We’re crushing on sheer layers in gauzy cotton, luxurious silk and flowing chiffon. These timeless fabrics are even more versatile in neutral hues and earthy palettes. Sigh.

2. Ladylike Shoes

Sometimes, a girl just wants a shoe that’s more comfortable than a stiletto and more flattering than a flat. Right? In the past, finding the perfect heel height has admittedly been hit or miss. Sure, a kitten heel or stacked ankle bootie both work like a charm for certain outfits, but all along, we knew something was missing. Fortunately, footwear designers have taken the hint and have integrated mid-height pumps and mules back into the fashion rotation. Even better, these new styles come in a medley of color pops, dreamy pastels and pretty embellishments.

3. Bracelet Bags

Another emerging trend we think has major staying power is the clever bracelet bag, which blends two timeless accessories into one romantic piece. Keep everything you need right at your fingertips – literally – thanks to this innovative bag that has all the charm of a clutch and all the function of a wristlet. (It’s especially ideal for those of us who would lose our heads if they weren’t screwed on.) Balenciaga’s Spring-Summer 2016 runway showed how gorgeous this style is when paired with delicate slip dresses.

4. Mixed Prints

Polka dots, florals, nautical stripes, paisley… all of these patterns are necessary components of mix-and-match style. Pair them up accordingly for an inspired take on finding your own “prints charming.” When done right, these artsy combinations elevate your look to stylish new levels… and besides, how fun is it to play with prints? Our Floral Print Kimono is a great place to start.

5. Flare Jeans

For the longest time, skinny jeans reigned supreme on the fashion catwalks as well as in the real world. We love this flattering fit just as much as the next girl, but we also enjoy keeping our options open – which is why we’re particularly excited by the newest batches of denim essentials. High-waisted flares and cropped culottes are giving us serious spring anticipation. (Madewell’s Flea Market Flares are giving us a major ‘70s vibe, too.)

6. Playful Proportions

Speaking of culottes, this trendy pants length is “cropping” up everywhere to our collective delight. There’s something so Parisian chic about this ankle-baring length that not only showcases our favorite pair of ankle-strap shoes but also insists that we get creative with our styling decisions. A cropped cardigan, a tight bodice or a sheer knit blouse? A kitschy vintage vest or an embroidered belt? The possibilities are endless (and incredibly fun).

Even though we don’t have drastic season changes in Hawaii, the North Shore swells definitely show us the changes year after year. There’s been such a hazy glow in the sky these days with the salt spray and sunsets. What better way to match the fall sun than with these regal ethnic pieces?

Changing Seasons

Saying good-bye to summer is one of the hardest things to do, it always seems to come and go so quickly. As the days of summer wind down, I slowly start to incorporate more transitional pieces that can carry me into fall. I love how my off the shoulder top accentuates my collar bone and instantly makes me feel feminine. As for my accessories, I kept them fairly neutral adding in my favorite new thread thru earrings. I love that their exaggerated length can dress up any look.
